A close up of a hand of a man with a pen and explaining about the Salesforce Training processSalesforce, a type of cloud computing, is currently the hot commodity in the IT industry. Through training of salesforce on Salesforce.com, thousands of careers have been created and boosted. According to an article in the Forbes magazine, approximately 55% of all business enterprises predict that cloud computing can and will be able to enable novel business models in the next couple of years. What is unique about Salesforce is that it provides different enterprises vastly different, customized cloud computing solutions which are unique to those particular businesses. There are several reasons why an IT person should get a Salesforce certification and even more on how to get it.

First of all, one must understand that there are several levels to Salesforce such as developer and administrator. The certification depends on a person’s previous experience in cloud computing as well as their end usage of the technology. However, it should be noted that contrary to popular belief, being a good Salesforce Administrator does not actually require learning a lot of new skills. Many administrators actually learn salesforce as a supplement to their routine and having found it useful will opt to go further with certifications.

The Administrator certification currently offers two certifications; the first is Salesforce Administrator and the second is Advanced Administrator. While there are no rudiments required to understand or study for the Salesforce Administrator certification, a candidate must first complete Salesforce Administrator before being allowed to write for the Advanced Salesforce Administrator. This certification tends to focus on day-to-day usage implementation of Salesforce. During the course of the certification, the candidate will be tested the security model of Salesforce, how to manage users, creating workflow and setting up certain features like the Territory Management option. With the Advanced Certification, the focus is on rather similar concepts, though more complex.

For the Developer certification, a Force.com Developer and an Advanced Developer options are available on this track. Similar to the Admin track, Developer does not require any basic courses but in order to appear for the advanced course, the Developer or DEV401 course is required. The Developer certification will be testing the candidate’s skills in creating declarative development, which is how Administrators mostly build their required configurations on Salesforce. For those with little to no coding skills, bear in mind that it is based on clicking, not coding. This includes knowing when to create a clickable, customized object and when to use the code when setting up the configuration.

Keeping these variations in mind, the training in Salesforce is not as intense or confusing as it would seem. The Salesforce website itself offers an outline of topics that will be covered in each of the certification exams along with question weightage. Since Salesforce is always being updated, this list changes from time to time. Find out which topics are the hardest and consult someone who is already experienced in Salesforce or join a coaching centre. There are several online classes being conducted by reputed institutes that offer a variety of ways to claim the certificate including but not limited to learning the basics of code and real life situations in which Salesforce can be utilized to make the system more efficient. There are also various local Salesforce training centres around the world that will help candidates study for the exam by offering hands-on and lecture classes.

There are also official coaching classes offered by Salesforce for all of its certification programs. Though these classes are offered with the intent of covering all the topics needed to pass the exam, it is up to the individual to read between the lines and going in depth on each topic. Though these classes are comprehensive and give the candidate a solid outline, the price can seem excessive. The alternative is to look for partner or third party organisations that offer very similar services for a lower budget. It is essential to make sure such organisations have a good reputation and success rate, which can easily be found on the internet or by talking to former pupils.

The self-study option is for those who have a quick grasp, perhaps some previous experience in coding or want the challenge. Several community sites like YouTube and several blogs also help in understanding the concepts for free.
